Blacklist check

Enter a domain or an IPv4 address. For a domain we check its own addresses and its mail servers’ (up to 5 MX hosts and 10 addresses) against SpamCop and Barracuda, two blocklists that many mail servers use.

Lookups go to SpamCop and the Barracuda Reputation Block List, public lists we do not operate; they see the addresses looked up, not you. Delisting is handled by each list.

The basics

What is a blacklist (DNSBL)?

A DNS blocklist is a list of IP addresses that have sent spam. Mail servers look up each sender in it, and many refuse or junk mail from listed addresses. A server usually gets listed after a hacked account, a compromised website or a contact form starts sending spam.

Why only two lists?

We query two public lists whose published terms allow lookups like these: SpamCop and the Barracuda Reputation Block List. Other lists set their own conditions for automated queries, so this page does not try to cover every blocklist. A listing on a list we do not check is still possible.

Why check the domain and not just the IP?

Blocklists list addresses, not domain names. For a domain we find the addresses that actually send and receive its mail and check those.

My IP is listed but I didn’t send spam.

On shared hosting, another customer on the same server may have. Ask your host; they can fix the cause and request removal.

Does IPv6 work?

This tool checks IPv4 addresses only.

How often can I check?

Up to 20 checks an hour from your network. When many people use it at once, it may ask you to try again in a few minutes.

Do you store what I look up?

We keep your IP address and the time for one hour, only to limit how often you can check. We don’t keep the domain or address you entered. Results are cached for a few minutes, so a repeat check may show the same answer.
