PingWise vs UptimeRobot

UptimeRobot confirms a failed check with up to 3 retries in the same region. PingWise pages you only when 10 of 15 probes, on 3 continents and 3 providers, agree.

Which one should you pick?

Pick UptimeRobot if you need SMS or phone-call alerts today; ours are not shipped yet. On free monitoring it no longer wins: its free plan covers 50 monitors at 5 minutes, checked from one region at a time, and our free 650,000 credits a month cover 75 five-minute monitors, confirmed across continents.

Pick PingWise if a false alarm at 3 a.m. costs you more than a few euros a month. UptimeRobot documents up to 3 retries in the same region before it alerts. We check every scheduled round from several cities at once, and page you only when two thirds of 15 probes fail on at least 3 continents and 3 providers, two rounds in a row. For 50 monitors every minute, the table below shows €7.55 a month here against UptimeRobot’s €19, with no subscription.

Moving over? Our switch page imports your UptimeRobot monitors with a read-only key and runs next to it for 14 days, so you can count its false alerts yourself before you decide.

Import your UptimeRobot monitors and run both side by side for 14 days.

Where UptimeRobot is the better choice

Being honest about this saves everyone time.

SMS and phone calls today

UptimeRobot documents SMS and voice-call alerts. Ours are planned after launch; today we alert by email, Telegram, Slack, Teams, Discord, Google Chat, PagerDuty, ntfy, Pushover and webhook. If your on-call person sleeps through Telegram and only a ringing phone works, UptimeRobot has that today and we don't.

More check types on paid plans

UptimeRobot’s paid plans add UDP checks and API monitors with JSON field assertions. We don’t offer either yet. If you monitor game servers, VoIP or other UDP services, or need to assert a field inside a JSON API response, that alone may decide it.

Third-party service status

UptimeRobot can follow the status of third-party services you depend on, from 1 to 100 services depending on the plan. We only watch what you point us at.

What PingWise does differently

  • Every scheduled check runs from several cities at once, not from one place with a retry.
  • The moment one probe sees a failure, every healthy probe checks again, free, before anyone is paged.
  • Nothing pages you until two thirds of our 15 probes (10) fail, on at least 3 continents and 3 different providers, two rounds in a row.
  • A WAF or Cloudflare challenge is reported as “blocked”, never as down.
  • Every alert says what each probe saw: resolved IP, status code, timing and error.
  • Prepaid credits, no subscription: 650,000 free every month, packs from €5, bought credits last 24 months.
