PingWise vs Pingdom
Pingdom has about 146 probes in 26 countries and real-browser transaction checks. PingWise has 15 probes and needs two thirds of them to agree before it pages you.
Which one should you pick?
Pick Pingdom if you need what a large, long-established vendor offers: about 146 probes in 26 countries, recorded browser transactions such as a login or a checkout, page-speed checks and real-user monitoring, all from SolarWinds. If your procurement team wants an enterprise supplier, that matters too.
Pick PingWise if you mainly need to know, reliably, that a site is down. Pingdom documents a second probe, as far away as possible, to confirm a failure. We require 10 of 15 probes on at least 3 continents and 3 providers to fail two rounds in a row, and every scheduled check runs from several cities at once. We also show WAF challenges as “blocked” rather than down, and run heartbeat monitors for cron jobs, which Pingdom documents as not offered.
The price gap is large at small sizes: the table below shows 50 monitors every minute at €7.55 a month here and €60.50 at Pingdom, with no subscription.

Where Pingdom is the better choice
Being honest about this saves everyone time.
Far more probe locations
Pingdom lists about 146 probes in 26 countries. We run 15, in 15 cities on 6 continents. If you must prove availability from a specific country, Pingdom is far more likely to have a probe there.
Transaction monitoring
Pingdom records multi-step browser flows in real Chrome, such as a login or a checkout, and alerts when one breaks. We don’t run browsers. If revenue depends on a checkout working, not just a page loading, that is the check you want.
Page speed and real-user monitoring
Pingdom measures page load times from several regions and sells real-user monitoring by pageviews. We measure server response times only. If your goal is faster pages rather than knowing about outages, Pingdom covers more of it.
An enterprise supplier
Pingdom is a SolarWinds product, which can simplify purchasing in larger companies. We are a young, small company. Long-established vendors pass security questionnaires and purchasing reviews more easily, and that is a fair consideration.
What PingWise does differently
- Every scheduled check runs from several cities at once, not from one place with a retry.
- The moment one probe sees a failure, every healthy probe checks again, free, before anyone is paged.
- Nothing pages you until two thirds of our 15 probes (10) fail, on at least 3 continents and 3 different providers, two rounds in a row.
- A WAF or Cloudflare challenge is reported as “blocked”, never as down.
- Every alert says what each probe saw: resolved IP, status code, timing and error.
- Prepaid credits, no subscription: 650,000 free every month, packs from €5, bought credits last 24 months.
