PingWise vs Better Stack
Better Stack is an incident-management suite with on-call scheduling and phone calls. PingWise does one thing: confirmed uptime alerts, without seats or a subscription.
Which one should you pick?
Pick Better Stack if you need incident management around your monitoring: on-call rotations, escalation, phone calls and SMS, browser checks and status pages in one product. It is a broader, more mature platform than ours, and for a team with an on-call rota it does things we don’t do at all.
Pick PingWise if what you need is an alert you can trust, at a price that doesn’t grow with seats. Better Stack documents at least 3 of 4 or more locations failing before it alerts, which is a good rule. Ours is stricter: 10 of 15 probes, on 3 continents and 3 different providers, two rounds in a row, and every scheduled check runs from several cities, not only the confirmation. Team members are unlimited here; on-call seats are a paid add-on there, listed at $29 per user.
Many teams can use both: Better Stack for on-call and incidents, and our webhook to feed it confirmed outages.

Where Better Stack is the better choice
Being honest about this saves everyone time.
On-call scheduling and phone calls
Better Stack has on-call rotations, escalation policies, SMS and phone-call alerts. We don't have our own on-call or escalation; we hand alerts to PagerDuty, which does, and to email, chat tools, push and webhooks. If several people share night duty, that rota and escalation is the product, and we are not it.
Browser checks with Playwright
Better Stack runs Playwright scripts as monitors, billed per minute of browser time. We don’t run browsers. If a login form or checkout flow must be tested end to end, you need a browser, and Better Stack runs one.
More protocols
Better Stack documents UDP, POP3 and IMAP monitors next to HTTP, TCP, ping, SMTP and DNS. We cover HTTP, TCP, ping, SMTP, DNS and TLS. If you run your own mail servers, POP3 and IMAP checks are useful.
One vendor for more of the stack
Better Stack also sells log management and infrastructure monitoring. We only do external uptime checks. One bill and one dashboard for logs, metrics and uptime is worth something to a busy team.
What PingWise does differently
- Every scheduled check runs from several cities at once, not from one place with a retry.
- The moment one probe sees a failure, every healthy probe checks again, free, before anyone is paged.
- Nothing pages you until two thirds of our 15 probes (10) fail, on at least 3 continents and 3 different providers, two rounds in a row.
- A WAF or Cloudflare challenge is reported as “blocked”, never as down.
- Every alert says what each probe saw: resolved IP, status code, timing and error.
- Prepaid credits, no subscription: 650,000 free every month, packs from €5, bought credits last 24 months.
