Website monitoring that knows what a broken site looks like
A site can answer «200 OK» and still be broken. PingWise checks the status code, but also what’s on the page, how long it took, and what each city sees.
More than «is it up?»
Error pages that return 200
PingWise catches WordPress’s «There has been a critical error on this website», «Error establishing a database connection», a maintenance page left behind by an update that didn’t finish, and raw PHP fatal or parse errors. The alert names the error. This is on by default.
Keywords
The page must contain a text, or must not.
APIs
Check one field of a JSON reply, for example status equals ok.
Redirects and TLS
Up to 5 redirects are followed and the certificate verified. An expired certificate is an outage, and you get a warning days before.
Dev / stage mode
Staging sites are watched without paging anyone: you see the history, nobody wakes up.
Speed, measured where your visitors are.
Response time from every probe
Time to first byte, server time and the full response, per city. Try it on any URL now with the TTFB checker.
A Speed figure per monitor
The share of checks under your target, plus the p75.
An optional slow alert
When the median stays over your threshold for 5 minutes. It’s measured from the probes nearest your server, from your visitors’ regions, or from all of them.
«Unreachable from Sydney» isn’t an outage, but you’ll see it.
Every check shows what each city saw. A real outage needs most probes on three continents to agree: how uptime monitoring confirms it.
Gentle on your server
The probes of a round start one after another, paced by your site’s own response time. Your site sees about one request from us at a time, and a new monitor starts extra gently for its first day.
An incident page
When it does go down, the incident page shows what failed and from where, with a timeline of alerts and acknowledgements, and a secret read-only link to share it with someone without an account.
A public status page
Optional, and it shows your visitors the same facts. Status pages.
Alerts
Email, Slack, Teams, Discord, Telegram, Google Chat, PagerDuty, Pushover, ntfy or a webhook, and SMS and phone calls to EU and UK numbers.
Questions
Will it see a Cloudflare challenge as down?
No. A challenge or block page is reported as «blocked», a warning and not an outage. Check in advance with the Cloudflare check.
How often can it check?
Every 10 seconds to every hour, on every account.
I host many sites. Do I add them one by one?
No. Import a list, or connect Enhance, cPanel/WHM or Plesk and every site gets a monitor. See PingWise for hosting providers.
