Best Pingdom alternatives in 2026

Six services compared on what actually differs from Pingdom: how a failure becomes an alert, what 10 or 50 checks cost, whether there is a free tier, the fastest interval, and which alert channels are built in. Every price and feature comes from the vendors’ own pages, linked at the end, and a column says where we didn’t find an answer.

Who is writing this: Alex, who runs PingWise, one of the six tools below. That is a bias, so the page is built to be checked: the order is ours, by the criteria in the next section, and the tables let you judge by yours; the numbers are the same ones on our comparison page, each tool has a “where it falls short” section, including ours, and if you work at one of these companies and something here is wrong, email us and we correct it within one working day.

Key takeaways

  • In our view the strongest reason to leave Pingdom is price at small sizes. 10 checks every minute are €14.33 a month on its cheapest annual plan and 50 checks are €60.50; there is no free plan, only a 30-day trial. Every alternative below is cheaper for 50 monitors, and every one of the six has a free tier or is free.
  • Confirmation is the second reason. Pingdom documents one second probe, as far away as possible, before it alerts. The alternatives range from in-region re-checks (StatusCake, UptimeRobot), which is lighter than Pingdom’s rule, to at least 3 of 4 or more locations (Better Stack) and two thirds of 15 probes on three continents (PingWise).
  • What you give up: about 146 probes in 26 countries, real-browser transaction checks, page-speed and real-user monitoring, and an enterprise supplier. If those are why you bought Pingdom, only Better Stack and Hyperping below run browser checks, and none of the six lists as many probes.
  • At 50 monitors every minute: €7.55 at PingWise, €16.66 at StatusCake, €19 at UptimeRobot, $21 at Better Stack, $24 at Hyperping, $0 plus a server for Uptime Kuma, against €60.50 at Pingdom.

Why people look for a Pingdom alternative

Pingdom is one of the oldest names in uptime monitoring and part of SolarWinds; it has far more probes than anyone on this page, and checks that most of the others don’t run. The reasons to look elsewhere are specific, and they are the criteria for this list.

No free plan, and a higher entry price than most of this list

Pingdom documents a 30-day trial and no free plan. Its cheapest plan, billed annually, is €14.33 a month for 10 checks, and 50 checks every minute are €60.50 a month. For a small site or a side project it is a large part of the budget.

Confirmation by one far-away probe

Pingdom documents that a failed check is confirmed by a second probe, as far away as possible, before you are alerted. That is better than a retry from the same place, but it is still two opinions. Several alternatives below ask more locations before they page you.

Chat alerts and PagerDuty through a webhook

In Pingdom’s documentation we found Slack as the built-in chat integration, with Microsoft Teams and Discord not listed, and PagerDuty reached through a webhook. If your on-call lives in Teams, Discord or Telegram, every alternative below documents at least one of those natively, on the plans in the table.

Heartbeat monitors not found, one-minute checks

We did not find heartbeat (cron-job) monitoring in Pingdom’s documentation, and its documented fastest check interval is one minute. If you also want to know that a backup ran, or you want checks every 15 or 30 seconds, you need a second tool or a different one.

The six Pingdom alternatives, side by side

HTTP monitors at the given interval, on each service’s cheapest plan that covers it, per month. “Before alerting” is each vendor’s documented confirmation rule.

PingWise prices use the rate of the credit pack a year of that usage would use up; the free 650,000 credits a month are subtracted first. Other prices are as published on the sources at the end, in the currency the vendor shows there. All prices are before VAT. Pingdom itself is in the full table further down.

1. PingWise

Ours. Confirmed alerts from 15 probes on 6 continents, prepaid credits, no seats.

Who it is for

People who bought Pingdom to know, reliably, that a site is down, and who don’t use its browser transactions or page-speed tools. Hosting companies, agencies and anyone on call for several sites, where a false page at night costs more than the subscription.

What stands out

Every scheduled check runs from several cities at once. Nothing pages you until two thirds of 15 probes (10) fail, on at least 3 continents and 3 different providers, two rounds in a row. A Cloudflare challenge or block is reported as “blocked”, not as down. Every alert says what each probe saw: resolved IP, status code, timing and error. Heartbeat monitors for cron jobs, Telegram, Slack, Teams, Discord, Google Chat, PagerDuty, ntfy, Pushover and webhooks built in. Team members are unlimited.

Compared with Pingdom

Confirmation is stricter: one far-away probe there, 10 of 15 probes across continents here. Intervals go down to 10 seconds on verified domains once you have bought credits (15 seconds before that), against Pingdom’s one minute. Heartbeats exist. And the free 650,000 credits a month run 15 monitors every minute or 75 at 5 minutes, where Pingdom has no free plan.

Price

10 monitors every minute: free. 50 every minute: €7.55 a month. 50 every 5 minutes: free. Packs from €5 for 250,000 credits, valid 24 months, no subscription.

Where it falls short

No browser or transaction checks, no page-speed or real-user monitoring, no SMS or phone-call alerts yet, 15 probes rather than Pingdom’s roughly 146, and a young operator rather than an enterprise supplier. 10- and 15-second intervals, custom ports and POST requests need a domain you have verified with us, and 10 seconds also a credit purchase.

2. Better Stack

The closest to Pingdom’s breadth: browser checks, on-call and incident management, logs, from one vendor.

Who it is for

Teams that used Pingdom’s transaction checks and want them kept, plus an on-call rota, escalation and phone calls around the alerts. If several people share night duty, this is the one on the list built for that.

What stands out

Playwright browser checks billed per minute of browser time, on-call scheduling, SMS and phone-call alerts, UDP, POP3 and IMAP monitors next to HTTP, TCP, ping, SMTP and DNS, a status page, and log management and infrastructure monitoring from the same vendor. It also works behind a dedicated monitor, taking confirmed outages by webhook.

Compared with Pingdom

A stronger confirmation rule, at least 3 of 4 or more locations failing, browser checks of its own, and a free plan of 10 monitors at 3 minutes. The step up from Pingdom is incident management; the step down is probe count, 4 regions against about 146 probes.

Price

Cheapest paid plan $21 a month for an extra 50 monitors, billed annually; 10, 50 at 1 minute and 50 at 5 minutes all land on that $21. On-call seats are listed at $29 per user.

Where it falls short

On-call responder seats are paid ($29 each, billed annually), the fastest interval is 30 seconds, and if you only need monitoring the incident-management layer is weight you pay for.

3. StatusCake

The most Pingdom-like feature set at a flat yearly price: page speed, SSL and domain tools.

Who it is for

People who want what Pingdom gave them around uptime, page-speed monitors and SSL and domain checks, at a fixed yearly price a finance department can approve, and who know how many monitors they will have.

What stands out

Page-speed monitors on a schedule, SSL scoring, domain monitors with expiry, blacklist and DNS-record checks, a Linux server agent and SSH tests, about 41 locations, SMS and phone alerts, invoice billing on Business. The Superior plan covers up to 100 monitors at one price.

Compared with Pingdom

The nearest replacement for Pingdom’s page-speed tooling on this list, at €16.66 a month for up to 100 monitors instead of €60.50 for 50. Confirmation is weaker than Pingdom’s far-away probe: StatusCake documents 0 to 3 re-checks in the same region.

Price

Superior, billed annually: €16.66 a month, whether you run 10 or 50 monitors every minute. Free plan: 3 to 10 monitors at 5 to 15 minutes.

Where it falls short

Single-region confirmation, 1 or 2 logins on the lower plans, 30-second checks only on Business, and the status page is a separate product. We did not find browser transaction checks in its documentation.

4. UptimeRobot

The mass-market option: a big free plan, SMS and phone calls, a plan for every size.

Who it is for

Anyone leaving Pingdom over price who wants something simple with a free plan and SMS or phone-call alerts, and who can live with single-region confirmation.

What stands out

50 monitors at 5 minutes for free, 4 regions, SMS and voice-call alerts, status pages, heartbeats, an API, UDP checks and API monitors with JSON assertions on paid plans, and following the status of third-party services you depend on.

Compared with Pingdom

Far cheaper: €9 a month for 10 monitors every minute and €19 for 50, against €14.33 and €60.50. Confirmation is lighter than Pingdom’s: up to 3 retries in the same region. Its own help pages say checks run from one region at a time, cycling through the regions you select on paid plans.

Price

10 monitors every minute: €9 a month on Solo, billed annually. 50 every minute: €19. 50 every 5 minutes: free.

Where it falls short

Single-region retries, 3 team members on the Team plan, and webhook and PagerDuty alerts on Team as well. If false alarms were not your problem at Pingdom, they may become one here.

5. Hyperping

18 regions, browser checks, status pages and phone calls in one subscription.

Who it is for

Teams that communicate incidents to their customers and want status pages, SMS and phone calls and a few Playwright browser checks in one polished product, from more regions than most of this list.

What stands out

18 regions, Playwright browser checks on paid plans (3 on Essentials, 10 on Pro, 25 on Business), SMS and phone-call alerts, status pages, heartbeats, a server agent, an API.

Compared with Pingdom

Browser checks and more regions than any other alternative here make it the closest to Pingdom’s shape, at $24 a month for the entry plan against €60.50 for 50 Pingdom checks. We did not find a published confirmation rule; its documentation says failures are re-checked from other regions.

Price

Essentials, billed annually: $24 a month, covering 10 or 50 monitors every minute and 50 at 5 minutes. Free plan: 20 monitors at 5 minutes.

Where it falls short

No published confirmation rule, 3 seats on the entry plan, 30-second fastest interval, and phone calls and browser checks are what you pay the $24 for; if you need neither, the cheaper options above cover the same monitoring.

6. Uptime Kuma

Free, open source, on your own server. The opposite of Pingdom in every way, which is sometimes the point.

Who it is for

Homelabs, side projects, and anyone whose policy forbids sending target lists and results to a third party. Also anyone who needs to check things not reachable from the internet.

What stands out

No limits beyond your server, a very long list of check types, every notification channel you can name, status pages, groups, heartbeats, and your data never leaves your machine.

Compared with Pingdom

It replaces a €60.50 bill with a server to run and patch. It checks from one place, wherever you run it, with retries from the same server, so it cannot do what Pingdom’s far-away probe does: tell your site’s outage from its own network’s outage.

Price

$0 plus a server, for any number of monitors. A documented REST API for managing monitors was not found in its public documentation.

Where it falls short

One location, no confirmation from elsewhere, and somebody has to maintain it. Inside the network it is excellent; for the outside view it needs a hosted service next to it.

Also considered

Three more services we compare on this site, left out of the shortlist for the reasons given, not because they are bad.

updown.io

Prepaid credits from a €5 pack, 15-second checks, custom HTTP requests with any method and a body, Apdex per check, SMS. Left out only because it covers the same ground as PingWise on this list, a small credit-based monitor, with a lighter confirmation rule (three failures, at least one from another location). For a developer’s side project it is a fine Pingdom replacement; see our updown.io comparison.

HetrixTools

15 monitors every minute free from 4 locations, every check from several locations at once, blacklist monitoring and a free server agent. Left out because its strengths are a hosting company’s needs rather than Pingdom’s; we did not find browser checks or page-speed monitors in its documentation. For a hoster it may be the best of all of these.

Cronitor

Built around cron-job monitoring with SDKs and per-run metrics, priced per monitor and per user ($2 and $5). Left out because its product is built around scheduled jobs, and 50 monitors every minute cost $105 there.

How to leave Pingdom without a gap

  • Keep Pingdom running for two more weeks. Monitor the same sites from both, on the alternative’s free tier or trial, and compare the alerts you got.
  • List what you actually used. If no transaction check or page-speed report was opened in the last quarter, you are paying for probes and reports, and any tool above replaces the uptime part.
  • Rebuild monitors from an export, not by hand. We did not find a Pingdom import documented by any of the six; export your check list from Pingdom’s API and feed it to the new tool’s API or CSV import. PingWise’s switch page takes a CSV with url, name, interval and group.
  • Check the free tier in your own numbers. Monitors × checks per month is the only honest unit: a 1-minute monitor is 43,200 checks a month; 50 at 5 minutes is 432,000.

Pingdom alternatives: common questions

Is there a free Pingdom alternative?

Yes. Pingdom has no free plan; UptimeRobot (50 monitors at 5 minutes), HetrixTools (15 monitors every minute), Better Stack (10 monitors at 3 minutes), Hyperping (20 at 5 minutes) and PingWise (650,000 credits a month, 15 monitors every minute) all do, and Uptime Kuma is free on your own server.

Which alternative has browser or transaction checks like Pingdom?

Better Stack and Hyperping run Playwright browser checks. StatusCake has page-speed monitors but not multi-step transactions. PingWise, UptimeRobot and Uptime Kuma don’t run browsers.

Which has the most probe locations?

None of the six matches Pingdom’s roughly 146 probes in 26 countries. StatusCake lists about 41 locations, Hyperping 18 regions, PingWise 15 cities on 6 continents, Better Stack and UptimeRobot 4 regions, Uptime Kuma one, wherever you run it. More probes is not the same as better confirmation; see the next question.

Which alternative confirms an outage most strictly?

Judge by the documented rule. Pingdom: one second probe, far away. StatusCake and UptimeRobot: re-checks in the same region. Better Stack: at least 3 of 4 or more locations. PingWise: 10 of 15 probes on 3 continents and 3 providers, two rounds in a row. Hyperping re-checks from other regions without a published rule; Uptime Kuma retries from the same server.

Can I import my Pingdom checks?

We did not find a Pingdom import documented by any of the six. Five of the six document an API that can create monitors; Uptime Kuma takes its own backup files, and PingWise also takes a CSV.
