Every account starts with an alert channel

A new account gets an email channel to its owner's verified address for every monitor, and an account with monitors and no working channel now says so on every page, with one click to fix it.

alertsaccount

Since 12:26 UTC an email channel to the owner's address is created the moment that address is verified, for every monitor in the account, and the panel says so: «Alerts go to by email, for every monitor. Change it or add Slack, Telegram and more under Alerts.» On Alerts it is listed as «Added when you signed up; change or remove it here». Only the owner's own verified address gets this, never a member's or an address someone else typed, and an account that already has a channel gets nothing.

Accounts that exist already are not changed. Instead, an account with running monitors and no working channel shows a banner on every panel page, «N monitors, no alert channel: nothing will reach you when a site goes down», with a button for the owner, «Send alerts to », that creates the same channel; a variant names the reason when the channels you have are turned off, unconfirmed or bounced. A hosting provider that runs accounts for its customers sees a «no alert channel» chip next to each customer nobody would hear about, unless one of its own channels covers customers.

This comes from this week's sign-ups: three of four new hosting providers had dozens of monitors and no channel. Details in Alert channels.
